How To Make Your Marriage Last A Lifetime
by Jack Graham
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Can love really last a lifetime? Is it possible to love someone more on the 5,000th day of marriage than you did on the 1st? Wives, can you actually fall more in love as your husband goes from sleek and handsome to bald and bulgy? Husbands, can you love your wife more as her hair goes gray and her face gets wrinkled?
Can love really last a lifetime? The answer is yes… because God created it that way!
As we take a look at the famous love passage in 1 Corinthians 13, we find God’s road map for the kind of love that really can last “till death do you part.” It’s a love that, at its core, isn’t focused on self, but on the goodness and well-being of the other person.
Did you get that? The greatest way to find real joy in a love relationship is to stop trying to please yourself and seek the other person first. It’s so counter-intuitive, but so absolutely crucial in making marriage last.
Maybe today, you know you’re guilty of having a self-focused love and your marriage is suffering because of it. It’s not too late to change. Start today by putting your spouse before yourself and you’ll discover real joy as each day becomes a lifetime of love.
PLACE YOUR SPOUSE’S NEEDS BEFORE YOURS DAY BY DAY AND YOUR LOVE WILL LAST A LIFETIME.
