Have No Fear of Perfection - from Experiencing LIFE Today

Have no fear of perfection --
you’ll never reach it.
-- Salvador Dali

God doesn’t grade on the curve. You don’t get a break just because you think you’re doing better than others, and a 99% on your review isn’t going to get you promoted in God’s Kingdom. Listen, if you’re going to try to prove yourself worthy according to the Bible, you’ll need to keep all 613 commands, because the law requires perfection.

For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. (James 2:10)

How could a person keep the entire law? King David spoke of meditating on the law day and night, and he still committed adultery. The law consumed his thought life, but ultimately it revealed his inability to achieve perfection and his great need for God.

Not much has changed today. We are still unable to live beneath the law’s demand for perfection, and we still have an incredible need for God.

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us. (Galatians 3:13)

Please ponder this for just a moment because it can change your whole day for the better: Jesus desires for us to be free to live and free to be consumed by His perfect love. We can leave the curse of perfection behind.

Do you get it? If you’re like me, then you probably need to "get it" every day. You don’t have to worry about the law; and even though we know sin is wretched, you don’t have to fear when you stumble. Life in the Spirit is not performance based. You are not accepted or rejected based on your behavior. The divine standard has been satisfied by the divine sacrifice -- and that changes everything!

Perfect Father, I look up today and confess I’ve been running toward the wrong finish line. I’ve stumbled (and prayed no one is watching). I’ve failed (and feared it made me a failure). Show me the way of acceptance so I might walk in it. Lead me away from this curse and into the gift of grace, so I can be free to follow Your Holy Spirit, according to Your living Word today. Let’s dance! Amen.
