Proverbs 17:4, “A wicked
doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty
tongue.” The Devil has a multitude of lies, but there is only one
God-given truth. That is true in salvation. There is only one way to
Heaven and that is through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus
Christ. Though the world will tell us there are multitudes of ways to
get to Heaven, God’s Word tells us there is only one way. We need to
share that truth with the world even if the world rejects it.
The Bible tells us that the world is filled with people who are wicked. Wicked people do not want to hear the truth. Proverbs 28:4, “They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them.” That is why we have the promotion of wickedness, in our world like abortion on demand, homosexual rights, the legalization of drugs, minor sentences for people involved in child molestation.
2 Timothy 4:3 teaches us this truth, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;” This verse teaches that the reason wicked people listen to liars is because they are liars themselves. Paul writing to Galician believers said “Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?” (Galatians 4:16). When people are doing that which is wrong, they do not want to hear truth. In Isaiah’s time they said, “Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits:”(Isaiah 40:10). Jeremiah 5:31, “The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so:” Though the world does not want to hear truth, we need to be anxious to hear truth. We must not just be hearers of the Word, we must be doers of the Word.
Honesty in our life will produce the blessings of God. Lies may comfort us for awhile, but they will lead us to death and destruction.
