Let's be friends
Hatred stirs up conflicts, but love covers all offenses. Proverbs 10:12, HCSB
Nothing compares to the power of love in bringing healing to someone who has sinned. God, for example, chose to redeem a sinful world, not by punishing us, but by loving us and sending his Son to die for us.
Don't underestimate how much your love can help someone who is carrying a burden of sin. When a friend is caught in sin, don't withdraw and tell everyone what your friend has done. Instead, find ways to restore him. Help him be reconciled with those he has offended. Encourage him to lean on the incredible love of God.
Has someone sinned against you? How are you going to respond? Will you refuse to forgive? Will you strike back in anger? Will you break off your friendship?
Will you continue to bring up the offense?
Love doesn't do that. Love forgives. Love doesn't hold on to a grudge or continue to make the person feel guilty. Love gives another chance. Love assumes the best of those who sin against you. Genuine love forgives many sins, not just the first one. There should be no limit to your forgiveness.
If you have friends who are suffering from the consequences of their sins, why not reach out in love today to help bring them healing? God will take care of disciplining them. He asks you simply to love the people around you.
What's the first thing you typically do when someone mistreats you?
