"And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? He said unto him, What is written in the law? How readest thou? And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live. But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour? And Jesus answering said, A certain man went (1)down from (2)Jerusalem to (3)Jericho, and(4)fell among thieves, which (5)stripped him of his raiment, and (6) wounded him, and departed, leaving him (7)half dead. And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journ eyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? And he said, He that showed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise" (LUKE 10:25)
1. DOWN, IMPLYING FALLING AWAY
2. JERUSALEM, PLACE OF PEACE
3. JERICHO, FRAGRANCE, A MORE Desirable PLACE.
4. FELL AMONG THIEVES, BECAME ONE OF THEM.
5. STRIPPED HIM OF HIS GARMENT, HIS RIGHTIOUSNESS.
6. WOUNDED HIM, BROKEN SPIRIT AND LOSS OF PEACE.
7. HALF DEAD, STILL ABLE TO RESPOND.
THE MAN COULD NOT HELP HIMSELF SO NEEDED A DELIVERER HE HAD SPIRITUAL NEEDS. HE NEEDED A MINISTER! NOT A DOCTER! "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." (JOHN 10:10)
"And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them "And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. 19Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you." (LUKE 10:17)
THE PRIEST AND THE LEVITE, IN TODAY'S ORDER, THE PASTOR AND THE DEACON, HAPPENED UPON HIM, THEY WERE NOT LOOKING FOR HIM. BUT THEY SAW HIM. THEY KNEW HIM, FOR THEY WERE FROM JERUSALEM. BUT PASSED BY ON THE OTHER SIDE. THEY MIGHT HAVE THOUGHT, WELL HE KNOWS WHERE THE CHURCH IS AND WHEN HE GETS STRAIGHT !!!!!
"But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep." (JOHN 10: 12)
A "CERTAIN" MAN WENT DOWN FROM JERUSALEM TO JERICHO" THIS MAN WAS SOMBODY, HE HAD A NAME , HE HAD A PROBLEM, HE NEEDED A SOLUTION.
A "CERTAIN" SAMARITAN HAD THE SOLUTION "But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee."
"And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." (MARK 16:15-18)
AMAZING! A SAMARITAN HELPING A JEW!
"There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.) Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? For the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans." (JOHN 4: 7-9)
THE PRIEST AND LEVITE SAW A LIABILITY, THE MAN HAD NO MONEY AND MEANS TO GET ANY. AND BESIDES THAT HE HAD FELL INTO THE WRONG CROWD.
THE SAMARITAN SAW A NEED, DIDN'T CARE WHERE HE WENT TO CHURCH AND DIDN'T REQUIRE AN OFFERING BEFORE MINISTERING TO HIS NEED. AND THEN PAID FOR HIS ROOM AND CARE, AT THE INN.
THE SAMARITAN MINISTERED TO HIM, BODY, SOUL AND HIS SPIRIT. "And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine," (LUKE 10:34)

Daily Smile:
CAPTURED THIEF
One day we saw a news report on TV about the owner of a craft shop and one of her employees who had apprehended a would-be thief and held him captive until police arrived to arrest him.
One day we saw a news report on TV about the owner of a craft shop and one of her employees who had apprehended a would-be thief and held him captive until police arrived to arrest him.
As we listened to the story, my grandson commented dryly, "What did they do? Hold him at needlepoint?"
