Sometimes change is good. And when God is involved, it's definitely good. But change doesn't always come easy. In fact, sometimes change is a bit scary.
When God delivered the
Israelites from slavery in Egypt, He saved them for a purpose. The goal
wasn't just to get out of Egypt, the goal was to get them into their
Promised Land. And so as they sat on the border of this land, God told
them to send spies to see what the land was like (Num. 13). The spies
came back with good news and bad news. The good news was that the land
really was an awesome place, "flowing with milk and honey". The spies
came back weighed down with all kinds of grapes, pomegranates, and figs.
Now for the bad news. There were giants in the land. Big, hairy giants.
The kind that eat little Israelites for breakfast.
Were the spies wrong in their report? No, they hit the nail on the head. The problem wasn't with the truth of the report, the problem was in the response to the report. God had already delivered them from Pharaoh, split the Red Sea, and fed them manna in the wilderness. Now God was planning on helping them fight their battles as well. But the people just couldn't see it. All they could see were the giants.
Is it time for you to change? Does the change seem a bit scary? Beloved, if God is for you, who can be against you?
